Tutorial Page 1 - Horse Body by =chassie Gryphonia noted me with: In my opinion, it is a very handy tutorial, especially for equine photo-manipulators, which shows exactly how to finalize a horse (with complex marking at that) for a manipulation. The artist shows us just how a horse's real look can be softened into an appealing and dreamy state. Not only that, but =chassie while guiding us through the tutorial, explains and gives many useful pieces of advice how this pretty guy can be further improved and how to tackle this and that. One of the best points of the tutorial is the flexibility and simplicity of the use of the technique, with which it can not only be used to great effect, but be built upon to create something your own."

Description

Yikes, this took forever!
You may download this, but do not take it/post it/distribute it. You may link to it.

Another tip is to work with high resolution images where possible - I know it isn't always easy to find the perfect image at high enough res but it will make things easier if you can :)
(thanks :iconsulamoon:)

EDIT: WOW a DD?!!! Thanks soooooo much!
Please also note the 'critiques' have NOT been requested. If you don't like the tutorial - don't use it.

Ok since this piece has started creating comment battles I'm disabling comments - if anyone would like to give a critique (though not requested) you may note me though please at least have the courtesy to be polite (negative is fine but there's no need to be rude). If you have a problem with it being a DD please speak to a mod not me as I have no control over that sort of thing.

EDIT 2: People seem to be confused as to where this can be used, this is a current trend often used in the equine photomanipulation community, I am trying to aid those people and any one else who may find this applicable by helping them to understand the principles etc behind smudging. It is used to create a dream-like effect. It is NOT a cheat for digital painting and is not intended to be used as such, it is another tool for photomanipulating.

P.S. This was done a fair while ago so please keep checking my gallery for newly smudged horses as they will be infinitely better done than this example. (Currently see - Winter Sonata)

I'm confused as to why someone would need to smudge a horse.

All you did is mess with the sharpness of the image.

I can do what you just did in my photo program, with one click. No tutorial needed.

They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here...
